Beatrice Grumberg, MD |
My ExperienceI am a board certified Internal Medicine physician with a new practice location in Hollywood, Florida near Memorial Regional Hospital. I have practiced in the Pembroke Pines area for the past fifteen years and have developed a very nice patient group with whom I have bonded strongly. I received my medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine and medical training at the University of Pittsburgh and Hahnemann University Hospital. Prior to my move to Florida, I practiced for six years in Philadelphia where I had experience in inpatient and outpatient medicine as well as teaching Internal Medicine residents at Frankford Hospital. My training in Pittsburgh involved an emphasis on primary care. I have co-authored medical studies and have been the sub-investigator for many clinical trials right here in South Florida. To spread the word about women’s health, I have been the guest speaker for local groups, like the Financial Strategies Group, Inc. As an undergraduate, I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Maryland and was inducted Phi Beta Kappa as a Junior. Aside from medicine, my academic interests include literature and writing.

My PhilosophyAs a personal interest, I have been educating myself over the past ten years on nutrition and lifestyle medicine, epigenetics, functional and integrative medicine and nutrigenomics. Unfortunately, as mainstream physicians we learn acute care medicine very well but lack an education in nutrition. An awareness of nutrients and the gut microbiome is paramount to tackling some of today's chronic illnesses. Having realized the importance of lifestyle, I took it upon myself to learn beyond what the pharmaceutical companies teach us. I adhere to the principles of both the American Board of Internal Medicine and Institute of Functional Medicine, blending them both.
Knowing that clinical medicine lags decades behind research, I remain current on both mainstream pharmaceutical and nutrition research. No two individuals are the same; therefore, cookie cutter medicine does not suit everyone. I personalize treatment decisions with the cooperation and teamwork of my patients. I strive to make a positive change with each visit. That small change may empower the patient to start their own health journey. I look to find the root cause of a patient's illness instead of putting bandaids on symptoms. I enjoy partnering with my clients which involves closely listening to the needs and motivations of each person. |
My RecommendationsYour path towards wellness involves limiting your exposure to toxins in your food, water, air, and environment. The Environmental Working Group (EWG) provides a number of resources regarding minimizing toxin exposure. Start with a whole foods diet made up primarily of vegetables and some fruits. Be certain to consume a colorful “rainbow” array of all varying vegetables and fruits. Try to eat organic when possible, especially the “dirty dozen” as detailed by the EWG. I recommend fermented foods (like sauerkraut and kimchi) as powerful sources of probiotics. Consider an air and water filtration system for your home. Understand, as I do, that “sleep" is your fifth vital sign.” We must find strategies to control and deal with our stress to reduce oxidative stress and inflammation. Exercise helps in this regard and has been associated with reducing many chronic illnesses. Have fun and get OUTSIDE!
